Pewter Relief modelling or embossed pewter, also known as reujado, is used for decorative purposes, and done on thin sheets of pewter. The design is modelled from the back using special tools to create a relief or raised design on the front. The back is then filled with a filler such as beeswax, to prevent the moulded-out design on the soft metal from being flattened. Once this is done the front is treated with a chemical, called patina, to give the metal an aged effect and to create some depth. When complete the design is secured to a firm surface such as art canvases, boxes, tins and even candles to support the pewter.
